Pixel 9 Pro.

You want to know about this phone?

Okay.

I’m gonna tell you.

But I’m not gonna tell you like a reviewer. I’m not gonna tell you like someone who gets paid to say nice things. I’m just gonna tell you like… like I saw it in a shop and I picked it up and I played with it for a while and then I went home and read about it for way too long because I have no life.

First thing.

The size.

It’s small bro. Like actually small. Not small like a toy. Small like… remember phones from 5 years ago? That size. You can hold it. One hand. Your thumb reaches everywhere. Your pinky doesn’t hurt from holding it from the bottom.

I held my friend’s phone the other day. He has some big Samsung. I don’t even know which one. Fold maybe? Or Ultra? Whatever. That thing was a brick. Like holding a small TV. I asked him “how do you carry this” and he said “I don’t know man my pants are falling down” and we both laughed. But really. Big phones are annoying.

So the Pixel 9 Pro being small? That’s good. That’s really good.

But wait.

There’s also a big one. Pixel 9 Pro XL. Same phone. Just bigger. For people who like big phones. For people who like their pants falling down. For people with big hands or big pockets or both.

So Google gives you a choice. Small or big. Your pick. No one is forcing you either way. That’s nice. That’s respectful. Other companies just give you one size and say “deal with it” but Google said “nah, here’s both, you decide.”

Respect.

Second thing.

The screen.

It’s flat bro. Flat. Not curved. Remember when curved screens were cool? Everyone wanted curved screens. Samsung started it. Then everyone copied. Then everyone realized curved screens are stupid because the screen protectors don’t stick and the edges get cracked if you look at them wrong.

Now everyone is going back to flat screens. Finally. Took them long enough.

So the Pixel 9 Pro screen is flat. OLED. 120Hz. Bright as hell. 3000 nits or something. I don’t know what a nit is. Something about brightness. But I know you can use it outside. In the sun. At noon. In summer. And you can still see it. That’s all that matters.

The bezels are tiny too. Like barely there. Just a thin line around the screen. Looks clean. Looks expensive. Looks like someone actually cared when they designed it.

Third thing.

The design.

Okay so the back of the phone. There’s this camera thing. It’s not a bar anymore like the old Pixels. It’s more like a pill. A shiny metal pill. Sticking out. With cameras inside.

Some people say it looks weird. Some people say it looks like a medicine tablet. Some people say it looks like a tiny spaceship. I say it looks different. And different is good. Because every other phone looks the same now. Just glass and metal. Boring.

The back is matte glass. Not shiny. Shiny glass is fingerprint city. You touch it once and it looks like you ate fried chicken. Matte glass is clean. Stays clean. You don’t have to wipe it every 5 minutes.

Colors are nice too. There’s a pink one called rose quartz. A white one called porcelain. A greenish gray one called hazel. And a black one called obsidian.

The hazel one is the best. I don’t know why. It just looks… right. Not too loud. Not too quiet. Just right. Like Goldilocks but for phone colors.

Fourth thing.

The battery.

This is where it gets interesting.

So the battery is 4650 mAh. That’s not big. Actually it’s small compared to other phones. The RedMagic has 7500. The OnePlus has 6000. This has 4650.

But here’s the thing.

The phone lasts all day. ALL DAY.

How? I don’t know. Magic maybe. Or maybe because Google makes the chip and the software and everything together so it’s efficient. No waste. Every drop of battery is used for something useful.

One guy tested it. He used the phone for 10 hours straight. Screen on the whole time. Watching videos. Browsing websites. Playing games. Taking photos. At the end of 10 hours, the phone still had battery left. 10 HOURS bro. That’s a whole work day. Plus overtime.

Another guy tested video playback. The phone played video for 21 hours. 21. That’s almost a full day. Just video. Non stop. You could fly from New York to Tokyo and watch movies the whole time and still have battery when you land. That’s crazy.

So yeah. Battery is good. Really good. Surprisingly good. The kind of good that makes you forget what a charger looks like.

Charging though? Slow. 27W. That’s slow bro. Chinese phones do 100W. OnePlus does 100W. Samsung does 45W. Apple does 27W too so Google is not alone. But still. Slow.

You plug it in. You wait. It charges. Not fast. Not slow. Just… medium. Acceptable but not exciting.

Wireless charging is 15W. Also slow. Also fine.

Fifth thing.

The chip.

Tensor G4.

Google makes it themselves. This is the fourth one.

Is it the fastest chip in the world? No. Snapdragon is faster in benchmarks. But benchmarks are stupid. Who cares about numbers? Real life is what matters.

In real life, the Tensor G4 is fast enough. You open apps. They open fast. You switch between apps. They switch fast. You play games. They play fine. Not the best. But fine.

But here’s where Tensor is better than everyone else.

AI.

Google is all about AI. The chip is made for AI. So things like voice typing? Perfect. You talk. It types. No mistakes. You can say “period” and it puts a period. You can say “new line” and it goes to a new line. You can mumble and it still understands.

Call screening? When a spam call comes, the phone answers for you. A robot talks to the other robot. The spammer hangs up. You never get bothered. It’s beautiful. I wish every phone had this.

Live translate? You can talk to someone who speaks another language. You speak English. The phone translates and speaks in their language. They respond. The phone translates back. In real time. Bro. That’s not a phone. That’s science fiction. But it’s real. And it works.

So yeah. The chip is not the fastest. But it’s the smartest. And smart is better than fast. Would you rather have a fast idiot or a smart slow person? Same thing here.

Sixth thing.

The cameras.

Oh bro.

The cameras.

This is why people buy Pixels. This is the main thing. The reason. The whole point.

Three cameras on the back.

50MP main. 48MP ultra-wide. 48MP telephoto with 5x zoom.

But forget the numbers. Numbers don’t matter. What matters is the photos.

I saw a photo taken with the Pixel 9 Pro at night. A street. Lamp post. Car. Shadows. The photo looked like real life. The lamp wasn’t too bright. The shadows weren’t too dark. The colors were right. Not too warm. Not too cool. Just right.

Then I saw the same scene taken with an iPhone. The iPhone photo looked yellow. Everything was yellow. The lamp looked like the sun exploded. The shadows were black. No detail. Just black.

Then I saw the same scene taken with a Samsung. The Samsung photo was too bright. Colors looked fake. Like a cartoon. The grass was too green. The sky was too blue. Everything was turned up to 11.

Pixel just looked… real. Like what your eyes see. That’s the magic. Google doesn’t overdo it. They don’t make everything bright and colorful. They make it look natural. Like a photograph should.

Zoom is good too. 5x optical zoom. 30x digital zoom. At 5x, it’s sharp. You can read signs from far away. At 10x, still good. At 20x, a little soft but still usable. At 30x, it’s a mess but you can see what it is. That’s fine. No one uses 30x zoom anyway.

Selfie camera is 42MP. With autofocus. That’s important because most selfie cameras are fixed focus. Fixed focus means if you hold the phone too close or too far, it’s blurry. Autofocus means it always finds your face and makes it sharp. So your selfies will look good. Always.

Then there’s the AI photo stuff.

Magic Eraser. You know this one. You take a photo. There’s a stranger in the background. You circle the stranger. The phone removes them. Like they were never there. Magic.

Best Take. You take a bunch of group photos. Everyone is looking somewhere else in each photo. One photo person A is looking. Another photo person B is looking. Another photo person C is looking. Best Take combines them all. One photo where everyone is looking at the camera. Perfect. Like no one blinked. Like no one looked away. Like magic.

Add Me. You take a photo of your friend. Then you hand the phone to your friend. They take a photo of you. The phone puts you both together. In the same photo. Like you were there together. Even though you weren’t. It’s weird. It’s cool. It’s magic.

So yeah. The cameras are incredible. Maybe the best you can get on any phone right now. For photos at least. For video, iPhone is still better. But for photos? Pixel wins.

Seventh thing.

The software.

Android 14. But the Pixel version. Clean. No extra apps you don’t want. No Samsung stuff. No Xiaomi stuff. No nonsense. Just Google’s stuff. That’s it.

And 7 years of updates. SEVEN. That means if you buy this phone today, you get new Android versions and security updates until 2031. Your phone will last longer than your marriage probably. (Just kidding. Hopefully your marriage lasts longer than 7 years.)

The fingerprint sensor is under the screen. It works now. The old Pixels had bad fingerprint sensors. Slow. Unreliable. This one is fast. Reliable. You touch it. It unlocks. Simple.

Face unlock works too. Also fast. Also reliable.

There’s also a temperature sensor on the back. You can point it at things. It tells you their temperature. Your coffee. Your pan. Your baby’s milk. Your forehead if you’re sick. Do you need it? No. Is it cool? Yeah kinda.

And satellite SOS. Like iPhone. If you’re in the middle of nowhere. No signal. Emergency. You can send a message via satellite. Could save your life. Hopefully you never need it. But it’s there.

Eighth thing.

The bad stuff.

I promised I’d be honest. So here’s the bad stuff.

Charging is slow. 27W is not fast. Not in 2024. Not in 2025. Not ever. Chinese phones charge in 15 minutes. This takes an hour. Maybe more. That’s annoying.

No charger in the box. You have to buy your own. That’s also annoying.

Price is high. That’s a lot of money bro. That’s rent. That’s groceries. That’s a flight ticket somewhere nice. For a phone. Is it worth it? Maybe. But it hurts to pay that much.

The Tensor chip is not for gaming. You can play games. They will run fine. But after an hour? The phone gets warm. The frames drop a little. Not terrible. But if you’re a serious gamer? Get something else. Get the RedMagic with the fan.

No headphone jack. No expandable storage. Same as every other flagship. Still annoying.

The camera bar sticks out. A lot. The phone wobbles when you put it on a table. You need a case to make it flat. Most people use cases anyway. But still. Annoying.

Ninth thing.

Who should buy this.

If you love taking photos. Like really love it. Like you’re that person at the party taking pictures of everyone and everyone asks you to send them the photos later. This phone is for you.

If you want clean software. No bloatware. No nonsense. Just Google. This phone is for you.

If you want a phone that lasts all day. Even when you use it a lot. This phone is for you.

If you want a small phone that fits in your hand and your pocket. This phone is for you.

If you love AI stuff. The call screening. The voice typing. The live translate. This phone is for you.

If you want updates for 7 years. Buy it once. Use it forever. This phone is for you.

Who should not buy this.

If you’re a hardcore gamer. Playing for hours every day. Get a gaming phone.

If you need fast charging. Like really fast. Get a OnePlus.

If you’re on a tight budget. This is expensive. Get a Pixel 8a or something cheaper.

If you hate Google. If you don’t trust them. If you think they’re spying on you. Don’t buy this. Get something else.

If you need the absolute best video camera. Get an iPhone.

Tenth thing.

How does it compare.

vs OnePlus 15T.

Pixel has better cameras. Better software. Longer updates. Smaller size.

OnePlus has faster charging. Bigger battery. Newer chip. Lower price.

If photos matter most? Pixel.

If battery and speed matter most? OnePlus.

vs RedMagic 11 Pro Plus.

Pixel has way better cameras. Way better software. Smaller size.

RedMagic has a fan. Better cooling. Better for games. Bigger battery.

Gamer? RedMagic.

Normal person who takes photos? Pixel.

vs iPhone 16 Pro.

Both cost about the same. Both have great cameras. Both have good software.

iPhone has better video. Better ecosystem if you have a Mac or iPad.

Pixel has better still photos. Better AI features. Better voice typing.

If you’re all in on Apple? iPhone.

If you’re not? Pixel.

Eleventh thing.

Final final final thoughts.

Bro.

I never liked Pixels. I said that before. They always had something wrong. Bad battery. Bad fingerprint. Overheating. Something.

But the Pixel 9 Pro?

They fixed it.

The battery is good. Actually good. All day good.

The fingerprint works. Fast. Reliable.

The phone doesn’t overheat. Not like before.

The cameras are incredible. Best in class.

The software is clean. No nonsense.

The size is perfect. Not too big. Not too small.

Is it perfect? No.

Charging is slow. Price is high. No charger in the box. Not for hardcore gamers.

But for normal people? For people who just want a phone that works? That takes amazing photos? That lasts all day? That doesn’t have bloatware?

This is the one.

Google finally did it.

They made a Pixel that doesn’t have a catch.

It’s just… good.

Really good.
